Each of us in Christ is like a fortified city with walls rooted in His foundation. We align our guards along these walls to keep watch and protect against the enemy. How disparaging to learn that our worst enemy is already behind them — in fact, buried deep inside our hearts. There’s a conflict in us between our natural human tendencies, the Holy Spirit, and the temptations from the powers of the air. When we step into folly, the walls come down. Sin is like dynamite that blows open a space wide enough for the opposing armies to charge through. So, stay vigilant in His word. Keep His promises close to you. Remember who you belong to and what those walls are protecting. Nothing less than a lifetime in eternity — everything worth defending against a temporary pleasure.
