Faith of Dying Embers

My hiding place is a dark cave. Before the dawn, I am awake and lamenting the steps I’ve taken. My God was clearly in the lead when I misstep into the rockslide. Now I’m here, my nights lit by fire and my days spent in shelter. I can no longer face the world the way I once did. I know now that the air is thick with demons who even on the brightest day blot out the sun. My enemies wait, watching for me to appear, so I stay huddled inside this cavern, safe inside myself. My confidence is gone. The ground I was stood on upright with my lord is washed away along with the life I built on it. My strength has burned down from raging flames to dying embers. And still, every morning, I visit them to see if the Lord’s spirit will rekindle them into a blaze.
